Net metering is something that happens when you have a solar system installed and you are producing excess power.

The excess power is sent back to the grid, and you get a ‘credit’ from the utility companies to offset your bill during other months where you do not produce enough energy to have excess power.

However, something that most people don’t understand, is that the rate for net metering is set by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Usually the energy is prices at $0.03-$0.04 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) can charge as much as $0.29 per killowatt hour, so it’s not really a great deal.

If possible, it’s best to install a home battery so you can store excess energy yourself, or if this isn’t an option, install a solar system that is exactly the right size for your energy consumption needs.

At VEVO electric, we will never recommend you put a system in that’s bigger than your needs, because we understand the unfair implications of net metering.

If you have any questions, send us a message and we can help you out today.
